I’ve recently made a conscious decision to bring more joy, positivity and colour into my work, something that we could all have more of, especially coming out of the depths of winter and those dark gloomy days. My mind was very much fixed on the summer season when I designed this, I could picture it complimenting a summer dress or and a festival.
 
I have made feathers some time ago, but those were more naturalistic tones. So in contrast I wanted to include ALL the colours and there meanings as feathers are widely known for their symbolic meanings. 
 
Each colour incorporated into this necklace has a positive meaning, making this necklace an uplifting and joy necklace to wear what ever the occasion.
 
The colours and their meanings incorporated into the necklace are:
 
Purple: Compassion
Blue: Inspiration
Green: Good luck
Orange: Balance
Yellow: Confidence
Pink: Love
Red: Courage
 
Each piece of leather is cut by hand and meticulously fitted together using my unique leather marquetry technique. Some of the grey leather used for the pebbles is taken from some discontinued upholstery samples donated to me, which would otherwise end up in landfill. 
 
Once all the leather pieces are assembled, I stitch them together using my trusty companion, 'Gerty', a 1960's Pfaff rolling-foot sewing machine. Finally, I add the finishing touches to bring the piece to life.
