I've always artistically liked the look of Koi carp, I like the fluidity of them and the colours and patterns of their scales. I have painted and drawn them in the past and even challenged myself to make a pair of koi carp sandals during lockdown. Later on I scaled up the pattern from the shoes to make a patch for a jacket. 
 
I was recently asked if I could remake the koi as a patch, which I did as well updating the pattern and the colourway. Whilst working on this I thought it would be a lovely idea to incorporate the koi patch onto bag design, it was then a matter of figuring out the design to compliment it.
 
When starting out, I wasn’t quite sure what shape the bag should be, it had to be curved and fit the fluid shape of the koi design. I also like bags that can be worn either over the shoulder or as a cross body. So I designed the bag to have a wide double leather strap, that is comfortable to be worn either way.
 
For the construction of the koi carp, I use mainly lamb and pig leather each piece of leather is cut by hand and meticulously fitted together using my unique leather marquetry technique. before being sew together. Although this technique can take hours to achieve the result is a unique piece of wearable art. 
 
The bag it's self is made from a high-quality red cow leather and lined with cream lambs leather with a very large internal zip up pocket and two smaller patch pockets.
