I think I might have started a tradition of making something new each year for Halloween. Last year made some haunted houses, but with my love of animals I thought a cute little purple bat would be just a thing. 
 
I have made only four of these little creatures and being handmade they are all sightly different. I have also padded the bodies and stiffened their ears and wings to make them more bat like.
 
Each piece of leather is cut by hand and meticulously fitted together using my unique leather marquetry technique. Once all the leather pieces are assembled, I stitch them together using my trusty companion, 'Gerty', a 1960's Pfaff rolling-foot sewing machine. Finally, I add the finishing touches to bring the piece to life.
